Sakina discusses issues related to the welfare of OBCs Verma highlights role of OBCs in socio-eco dev of State SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 27: Minister for Social Welfare Ms. Sakina Itoo Friday said that it is endeavor of the coalition government to ensure equal opportunities for the development and welfare of all sections of the society and various initiatives have been put in place in this regard. She said Centre as well as State have launched several schemes for the upliftment of weaker sections of the society, including that of OBCs. The Minister said this while chairing a high-level meeting which was convened to discuss the issues related to the development of Other Backward Classes (OBCs), here today. Vice Chairman, State Advisory Board for the Development of OBCs, Mr. Kuldeep Raj Verma was also present in the meeting, After detailed discussion on various aspects related to the welfare of the OBCs, Ms Itoo said that any decision to this effect will be taken after taking into consideration the ground reality and proper analysis of data about the number of families of OBCs in the State and existing benefits available to these classes. She directed the officers to undertake a survey to ascertain the quantum of OBC populace in the State and submit the report within 4 months. Regarding enhancement of quota of OBC population for reservation in the Government jobs and other benefits, the Minister said that after getting the exact details about the population, the Government will take an appropriate decision. She urged the Vice Chairman, OBC Advisory Board to facilitate consolidation of data so that the matter is expedited. She appreciated the plight of the OBC people and said that Government will do justice with the deprived lot. Mr. Verma pleaded the case of the OBC people and sought special sops for them. He said OBC population is a deprived section of the society and deserved special attention of the Government and need to be given reservation quota at par to the Central Government to provide them justice. He said OBC section has been playing important role in the socio-economic development of the State and they deserved appropriate recognition. Secretary Social Welfare, Mr. Mohammad Shafi Rather, Secretary GAD, Mr. M.A Bukhari, Additional Secretary Law, Mr. Muzaffar Ahmad were also present in the meeting.
