Sally Ride...Americas First Woman Astronaut in Space. Born May 26, 2951 and Died on July 23, 2012. Sally had a Bachelor of Science in Physics, Bachelor of Arts in English, Master of Science and a Doctorate in Physics. She was the Professor of Physics and Director of the University of Californias California Space Institute (1989). She founded her own company Sally Ride Science for motivating young girls and women to pursue careers in science, math and technology. The company created many entertaining science programs and publications. Sally also, wrote five Science books for children..To Space and Back, Voyager, The Third Planet, The Mystery of Mars, Exploring Our Solar System. Sally was on-orbit capsule communicator on STS-2 and STS-3 missions, Mission Specialist on STS-7 and STS 41-6. Sally was the only person to serve on both the commissions investigating the Space Shuttle Challenger and the Columbia accidents. She also served on Boards of the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment and the Presidents committee of Advisors on Science and Technology and the National Research Councils Space Studies Board. Sally has been inducted into the National Womens Hall of Fame and the Astronaut Hall of Fame. Sally has to many other accomplishments and awards to list. I honor this very accomplished and honorable woman Sally Ride during this 2014 First Great White American History Month.
