Salman Gulzar has nominated me to participate in an online phenomenon where people are invited to share a verse or a few verses from the Holy Quran which they are currently thinking upon. The exercise carries a hashtag and a name which I do not entirely endorse for personal reasons, and has been going around with a bit of incorrect choice of words to define the exercise. So, I take the liberty of proposing a new hashtag #shareayah #shareQuran and define it as such - Every single one of the ayahs from the Holy Quran carries infinite divine wisdom in it, and depending on what a person has been pondering over at a given point in time, or what he/she is going through currently, the various ayahs of the Holy Quran speak to that person. The person nominated is invited to share an ayah or a few ayahs, no limit, which he/she is most moved by right now. I nominate Fariha Shaikh, Ali Khan, Sarah Jethani, Yasmin Mir, Yasmine Khan, Maria Muslimah, Aaisha Khan, Muddassir Khalid, Sarmad Khalid, Waseem Qureshi, Samirah Khan and anyone else who reads this... In the backdrop of where our nation must go from where it stands, and how we need to conduct ourselves in everyday life, I have been thinking the following ayahs over: Surah Anaam, Surah 6, Ayahs 151-153: Say (O Muhammad SAW): Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited you from: Join not anything in worship with Him; be good and dutiful to your parents; kill not your children because of poverty - We provide sustenance for you and for them; come not near to Al-Fawâhish (shameful sins) whether committed openly or secretly, and kill not anyone whom Allâh has forbidden, except for a just cause (according to Islâmic law in punishment). This He has commanded you that you may understand. (151) And come not near to the orphans property, except to improve it, until he (or she) attains the age of full strength; and give full measure and full weight with justice. We burden not any person, but that which he can bear. And whenever you give your word (i.e. judge between men or give evidence), say the truth even if a near relative is concerned, and fulfill the Covenant of Allâh, This He commands you, that you may remember.[] (152) And verily, this (i.e. Allâhs Commandments mentioned in the above two Verses 151 and 152) is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path. This He has ordained for you that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2). (153)
