I remember being in my 20s sitting in corporate meetings not having a clue what was being discussed yet refusing to ask for clarification for fear of being deemed a dumb nitwit by the other people who in my head were surely smarter than I was. So I kept quiet thereby intensifying my dumbness really. Thanks to God, I have come to learn thus far that there is no such thing as a silly question and that indeed the only question that is silly is the one we refuse to ask. Many times when I did, very uncharacteristi cally, find the nerve to ask my silly question, the answer it demanded actually proved that it was not silly at all and I could see in the eyes of the ‘smarter’ people that they too had filled a gap in their knowledge base thanks to my ‘silliness’ And funny enough, this courage of mine has grown the older I got even though I now consider myself wiser and somewhat smarter. Yes, it is now in my 40s that I am now able to demonstrate more courage to ask any silly question that pops into my head no matter how idiotic it sounds. And I encourage you to do same whether you are 32 or 52 or maybe just 22, when you are in that meeting or having that discussion and a question raises its hand in your head, please do not shush it away. For if clarity and wisdom is the prize, there is really no such thing as a silly question.
