Salt has been used in the human diet for thousands of years as a preservative as well as for the seasoning of foods. Salt is essential for life — you cannot live without it. However, most people simply don’t realize that there are enormous differences between refined table salt and natural health-promoting salt. These differences can have a major impact on your healthy. If you want your body to function properly, you need healthy salt complete with all-natural elements. We need to be aware that common table salt has nothing in common with natural salt. Refined salts, as found on grocery store shelves, on restaurant tables, and in most manufactured and restaurant foods is a toxic and dangerous substance that needs to be avoided as much as possible. So what happens to our bodies when we consume refined table salt? Mineral Depletion: Table salt leads to a poorly functioning immune system along with the initiation and acceleration of chronic illness. It depletes calcium, potassium, and magnesium and is directly related to cardiovascular disease. Ingesting large amounts leads to mineral deficiency. Acid Formation: Due to its lack of buffering minerals, table salt becomes an acidifying substance within the body. This makes it difficult for the body to maintain its alkalinity. Fluid Imbalance: Table salt is toxic to the body and responsible for upsetting the fluid balance. One ounce of ingested table salt will cause the body to retain 3 quarts of water (6 pounds of excess bodily fluids), in an attempt to dilute this extremely toxic substance. Many people that cut down on their sodium intake notice weight loss as the body begins to release the extra water it retained. Addiction: Table salt is highly addictive and disease promoting. Even with all the table salt contained in manufactured foods, many people will add more salt to their food from a salt shaker. Disease: Table salt either causes or aggravates a host of sicknesses – including but not limited to: edema, obesity, hypertension, coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, stroke, congestive heart failure, kidney failure, PMS, manic-depression, and the list goes on. High Blood Pressure: Table salt is a contributing cause of high blood pressure. Many people could probably be off blood pressure medicine if they would simply eliminate table salt from their diet. The average person consumes anywhere from 4,000 to 10,000 mg of sodium daily. Here are some examples; people will be surprised how much sodium they take in each day when they start taking a closer look at the label of what they consume: Check out this source on Fast Food Restaurants & Nutrition Facts Compared: acaloriecounter/fast-food.php ¼ frozen pizza 1389mg 1 oz potato chips 300 mg 1 tbsp salad dressing 333 mg 1.5 oz natural cheese 593 mg 10 oz canned soup 1547 mg 2 oz ham 1578 mg 2 slices of bread 1090 mg 4 oz frozen fish 1080 mg 6 oz serving bottled vegetable juice 555 mg Diet soda 550 mg Hamburger 800 mg Mexican style frozen dinner 2,300 mg Quarter pound cheese burger 1950 mg Scramble egg and sausage 1411 mg
