Salute-gate, blah blah blah: Ike didnt do it, and he was a four-star general. Kennedy didnt do it, and he was front-line Navy in the Pacific theater, severely wounded in action. Carter didnt do it, and he used to command nuclear subs. Reagan initiated this silly little piece of presidential theater, and it should have been stopped years ago, but inexplicably wasnt. If you think this is somehow an issue, not only are your priorities grotesquely skewed, but you are somehow inexplicably ignorant of why the U.S. president remains constitutionally a civilian, as well as the benefits of that; perhaps Adolph Hitlers (a civilian when elected) fondness for uniforms, salutes and other aspects of military protocol could act as a welcome reminder...
