Sam Gerhardt With this cold weather coming in, Deb has been watching tv shows of people buying property in the Caribbean. She loves the warm weather and beautiful water. Another note of interest is that many of our friends who have always lived in the Smokies prefer to go to the beach for vacations. It put me in mind of all the folks who flock to the beaches. Most people probably just sit on the beach, sun bathe and relax. They may wade a bit to get their feet wet, but they never really get into the water. Many may venture out to take a swim. A smaller number may even go snorkeling. Even fewer still will ever go scuba diving into the depths. This causes me to consider how many believers approach the words of God in a similar fashion. Im afraid that most believers like to observe the Scriptures without ever getting into them for themselves. They are satisfied with watching others get into the words of God. Many may do some casual devotional type reading for themselves. A smaller number may dig a little deeper than simple devotions. Fewer still are those who venture out into the depths of real Bible study. May we examine ourselves and determine to learn to scuba dive into the riches of the depths of Gods words rightly divided! 1 Corinthians 2:1-16 KJV [1] And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. [2] For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. [3] And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. [4] And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of mans wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: [5] That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. [6] Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: [7] But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom , which God ordained before the world unto our glory: [8] Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it , they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. [9] But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. [10] But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. [11] For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. [12] Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. [13] Which things also we speak, not in the words which mans wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. [14] But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them , because they are spiritually discerned. [15] But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. [16] For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. Isaiah 28:9-10 KJV [9] Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. [10] For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV [15] Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Hebrews 5:12-14 KJV [12] For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. [13] For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. [14] But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
