Sam Harris has awarded someone $2000 for writing an essay refuting the central thesis of his 2010 bestseller -- The Moral Landscape. The book advocates a science of morality by arguing that human values can be determined through the empirical process. Harris circumvents the ought/is value problem by presupposing certain evaluative axioms (a consequentialist-utilitarian mélange) which he asserts are intrinsic to our moral framework.
