Sam and Amy join BBC Radio 2 for cover East Midlands presenters Sam and Amy, breakfast hosts on Gem 106, will make their debut on BBC Radio 2 this weekend. The duo will cover for Richard Allinson Saturday and Sunday after their bosses at Gem allowed them to work on the national BBC station. Sam Pinkham and Amy Voce won Gold in the Music Radio Personality of the Year at this year’s Radio Academy Awards, beating Chris Evans, Graham Norton, Christian O’Connell and Mark Radcliffe. David Lloyd, Group Editorial Director at Gem 106′s owner Orion Media, said he was “delighted” their talents at Gem 106 had now been recognised by the BBC: “It’s been such a great year for Sam and Amy at Gem 106, I’m not surprised Radio 2 have cottoned on. If they need to borrow them now and again to help them out, it’s the least we can do,” said Lloyd. Sam Pinkham said it had always been an ambition to present on Radio 2. “I never really thought it would happen and on our first show we’ll be warming up for Anneka Rice! I presume she’ll be wearing a yellow jumpsuit? A massive thanks to Gem, as I’m very aware that without their blessing, this wouldn’t be happening. Let’s see how much Rolling Stones they’ll let me play!” he said. Together they have hosted breakfast in the region for eight years. Amy Voce added: “I’m absolutely delighted that we’re getting this opportunity to present at the Holy Grail of radio! Radio 2 has always been the dream, so for this to actually happen is something truly special. I thought we’d both be nervous but we’re just excited and itching to get on and enjoy it!”
