Samarth Sharma tagged me to list my 10 biggest movie influences. Here they are, in no particular order. 1) Annie Hall - A deeply personal film. Woody Allens unique take on love, relationships, psychology, life and death - has not only influenced the way I look at cinema, but has given me a better understanding of the world. 2) Apocalypse Now - No film mixes the epic war drama and the meditative study of human nature so well. A lesser actor would have enacted a mad man, but Brando depicts madness in itself. Mad, abstract, bizarre - not just the war, but the human psyche. 3) Satya - The subject was what I had seen dozens of time, but the treatment was so fricking unique. I remember watching the film at least 10 times at one point in time, and some scenes around 200-300 times. The way the characters were etched, the character motivations, the dynamics explored, the way even the smallest characters were made memorable - powerhouse of a film! 4) Its Wonderful Life - This movie makes me cry. Every single time. Brilliance in the most simplistic way! Every time I feel like a loser, I think of this film! 5) Pulp Fiction - Why cant films have a casual and informal transaction like we have in real life? It can, if you know how to do it the Tarantino way! And when you see a mans head being blown off, and it makes you laugh, you know you are watching at something special. This is one movie that grows on you during each rewatch! 6) Rashomon - For someone who had been fed with a regular dose of Indian masala cinema and some Hollywood action cinema, watching this movie at the age of 15 changed my perspective about cinema completely. 7) Magnolia - Beneath the cleverly written multi layered film, is an emotional roller coaster ride of awesomeness. Someday I hope I will find words to describe what this movie evokes in me! 8) Amores Perros - Gritty, heart breaking tale of love and loss, using dogs as a metaphor in the most brilliant way! 9) 12 Angry Men - An almost flawless film in all aspects! Watching this movie is a must for every aspiring film maker! 10) Requiem For A Dream - Aronofsky is an artist. And this is his most brilliant piece of art! I hereby tag Supreeth Ks Hema Powar Mukund Setlur Kuntady Nithesh Kiran Sam Praveen Sundaram to list their favorite films!
