Samfya: The final destination of this epic journey was Samfya, my home village and future base. Located on the South West shores of Lake Bangweulu, Samfya is a fishing centre and transit point to the Bangweulu Islands, Lusaka and the greater Luapula. But its the prestine sandy beaches and open Lake views that make Samfya a unique destination. Despite being only 30 minutes drive from Mansa (the Capitol of Luapula) and excellent road to Lusaka and rest of Zambia, Samfya is still yet to exploit even 10% of its tourism potential. The only best lodge, Kwacha Waterfront is always fully booked and even on this trip, I ended up sleeping at neglected Bangweulu Lodge (owned by erstwhile pastor Dan Pule). In spite of these challenges, Samfya provided the perfect podium to end the tour of duty. A braii by the beachside, glass of wine and a bit of beach soccer, plus a speedboat ride in the backdrop of the sunset over the Lake, its was the perfect moment to draw the curtains to my tour of duty.
