Samii Rose Hi Team, My names Samantha and Im from Australia. I was hoping you and your followers may be able to help my partners and I regarding our fur baby, Tyson. Tyson is an 8yr old boxer whom we think more of as family. Over the past few months Tyson has been unwell, throwing up at least once a week. We found a lump on his bits and another on his ear, to which wehad tested and unfortunately both have come back as mast cell tumors. The good news is that theyre both low grade and they havent spread elsewhere as weve had xrays/ultrasounds etc. the bad news is that to surgically remove the cancer, weve been told theyd need to cut at least a 3cm diameter around each lump. Given both locations, 3cm would see him with a right ear and causes functional problems for the lump on his genitals. Due to so many trips to the vet, Tyson shakes in his little boots whenever we go there and it breaks my heart seeing him so scared. Behaviour wise, hes perfect... Still eating (just plain rice and boiled chicken), drinking and has lots of that boxer energy we all love. Weve been told by our vet that the money were looking at for surgery will run into roughly about $5k... But on top of that, weve spent about $3k just to find out whats wrong with him. Money isnt our only concern. The surgery is quite invasive and risky and due to Tysons age, were not sure we want to go ahead with it and put him through such a traumatic event. Im not sure what Im asking but I wanted to see if anyone has had similar situations with their boxers (as mast cell tumors are unfortunatley common with our favourite breed)... And I wanted to see if you took an alternative path to surgery and had any luck? Any help/support would be greatly appreciated. He is our absolute world and were not ready to lose him, however, surgery isa tough call for us right now
