Sammy Mafu Broadband Infraco spokes-man said on Sunday that broadband speeds differed across South Africa because of uneven ICT infrastructure. "Provinces and even districts had varying ICT infrastructure (and) a legacy of past incumbents focusing on lucrative segments and neglecting others of a developmental nature. South Korea (has) about 99% coverage and improving. South Africa has a legacy problem to deal with. "Only 10-15% have real broadband access via fixed line high quality. Radio or mobile is higher but you cannot transact high resource files via smartphones. "So South Africa needs to invest several billions to roll out new broadband infrastructure and maintain (the existing one)," Mr Mafu said.
