Samples collected from clothes of deceased match DNA of all four accused’ Shabeer Ahamd Kupwara, June 5: In the 2007 Tabinda Gani rape and murder case, the statements of the last two prosecution witnesses (Director FSL Kashmir HC Baghat and senior scientific officer Shabir Ahmad) could not be recorded on Wednesday as the duo did not appear before the court in Kupwara. The hearing of the case was deferred till 11th of June. Principal District and Sessions Judge Kupwara Muhammad Ibrahim had summoned both the witnesses to appear before the court on 5th of June to record their statements but they did not. Both the FSL experts had submitted their forensic opinion before the court regarding the gang rape and murder 13-year-old Tabinda, a class 7 student, at Batpora in Langate (Handwara). Meanwhile giving the details, Senior Public Prosecutor Ghuam Muhammad Shah told Greater Kashmir that on 3rd June the statement of DySP Handwara Fayaz Ahmad was recorded and next day the statement of Dr. Sanjeev, DNA expert from Chandighrah (DNA lab) was also recorded. “On 11th of June the process of recording of statements would be completed,” he said. The gruesome incident had sent shockwaves across Kashmir and triggered spontaneous protests. Following the public outcry police had arrested four accused—Muhammad Sadiq Mir alias Saeda Choor, Azhar Ahmad Mir alias Billa, both residents of Langate Handwara and two non-locals Mochi Jahangir Ansari from West Bengal and Suresh Kumar from Rajasthan, and had filed a challan against them. Police had claimed that accused had confessed to their crime and prosecution’s case was very strong.KNSs addADDs In a significant development, the Chandigarh- based Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) has confirmed involvement of all the four accused in the Tabinda Gani rape and murder case. All the four accused are already in police custody. Senior Prosecuting Officer Ghulam Mohammad Shah Wednesday said a senior DNA expert of FSL Chandigarh, Dr Sanjeev has revealed in the sessions court at Kupwara that the blood samples collected from the clothes of the deceased during the post-mortem match the DNA of all the four accused against whom the trial is on. “The then SHO Handwara Syed Fayaz Ahmad has recorded his statement for the fourth time recently,” Shah told local news gathering agency KNS. The family of 13 year old Tabinda had refused to take ex-gratia relief from then government.
