Samputa Narasimha Temple which has been established by Shri Madhwacharya. Kukke Subrahmanya Temple Subrahmanya, son of lord shiva is worshiped in many forms. In South Canara,he is mainly worshiped in the form of Snake. The main temple dedicated to him is Kukke Subrahmanya Temple which is near Mangalore. The main deity here is Lord Subrahmanya is in the form of Serpent king Vasuki(Lord of all snakes). Inside the temple you can also see Samputa Narasimha Temple which has been established by Shri Madhwacharya. When Madhvacharya visited the holy place Badarinatha, he was presented eight salagrama-silas by Sri Vyasadeva known as the ‘Vyasa-musti’. Six of these salagramas are presently being worshipped in this temple, while the other two are in Sode Matha and Uttaradi Matha. Along with the eight Vyasa-musti, Sri Vyasadeva also gave Madhva, a Narasingha salagrama that is said to be so powerful that if it is uncovered, the three worlds would be engulfed in the flames emanating from Lord Narasingha. Consequently Sri Madhvacharya placed the salagrama within the safe confines of a box (samputa) along with 22 Laksmi-Narayana silas and five of the vyasa-musti silas (the sixth is worshipped outside the box). This Deity of Samputa Narasingha was so dear to Madhvacarya that Sri Vadiraja Svami, in his Tirtha Prabandha, has referred to Him as ‘The heart of Madhva’. Sri Madhvacarya established the matha in Subrahmanya and made his brother Sri Visnu Tirtha the first mathadhipati to perform pooja of Samputa Narasingha. Now also the main Sanyasi (Head of the mutt) does the pooja for Lord Narasimha here. From the main gopuram if you walk towards the north side you will get Adi Subrahmanya templewhere you can see great ant hill (hutta in kannada) in the sanctum.Poojas are performed here and the sand/soil is offered as prasadam to the devotees. The soil is said to be very good for skin diseases and any other kind of health problems. There is also a tradition of offering silver body parts to the hundi. Kumaradhara river flows near by the temple and there is bathing ghat also. Many devotees take bath in the river before offering prayers to god. From Bangalore reaching this place is easy as it has direct train and bus connections. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shri Ananta Padbhanabha and has a great importance. The deity here is none other than the main deity of Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple,Thiruvananthapuram,Kerala (as the story says the priest of kerala Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple bought the idol of god and the umbrellas here). As the priest says temple is famous for blessing childless couple with children.Eating or having meal on plain floor without any leaves is one of the auspicious sevas performed here. The temple is on the way from Uppinangady-Subhramanya near Ramakunja.Temple timings are from morning 10-12. One more important place to visit here is Erki Mutt. Erki Mutt is one of the blessed mutts which performs pooja of Lord Shri Kesava given to them by Shri Madhwacharya. The head of the mutt is Shri Venkataramana Upadhya. His family has been given the authority to do the Mudhradharanam (even though he is not Sanyasi) by Shri Madhwacharya which is very significant. You can also see a small pond near by where Shri Madhwacharya has made the water to come using his stick ( Dandam). Its called as Danda-Teertha. Another temple which is worth visit is Shri Ramakunjeshwara Temple.Rama came here in search of Seeta and worshiped Lord Shiva. The temple is very ancient and the structure of the temple is similar to kerala temples. This last picture shows the idol of Gopalakrishna given to our family by Shri Madhwacharya.
