Samuel Riddle [the elder] 1799-1888,millionaire manufacturer who came here from Ireland in the 1820s with brother,shipwrecked and broke,with just 5 dollars in his pocket,he quickly settled into the Mill business with skills he had learned in Ireland,first at the old Parkmount Mills then his own Mills in Glen Riddle-Rockdale,which he ran for almost 50 years,his 2nd young wife Lydia Doyle [1837-1915] came from a wealthy Chester family,her ancestor being a hero in the militia during the Revolutionary War,they had 4 children,Samuel D. being the most well known,their family mansion [27 rooms] stood on the Southeast corner of Pennell [Rte.452] and Glen Riddle Roads,it was empty when it was demolished in 1970 by the owner Sunroc Corp. who took over the Riddle Mills in the early 1940s
