Hindu New Year or Nav Varsh Samvat is celebrated on every Chaitra Shukl Pratipada (March – April).This day is marked by many significations and is considered to be highly auspicious because of following events- Importance of Chaitra Shukl Pratipada It is believed that Lord Brahma, started the creation of world on this day, hence the day is called Yugaadi (Yug + Aadi = beginning of the Yug) day. This calendar is mentioned in Anuwalk 6, Sookta 25 and mantra 8 of Rigvedah Sanhita. And thus has been in practice for at least 6000 years before Buddha. Lord Vishnu took the incarnation of Matasya on this day. On this day the sun assumes a position above the Vasant intersection (the point of intersection of the equator and the meridians) and the spring season commences. Thus Vasant Navratri also commences on this day. Along with this Gudi Padawa and Ugadi are also celebrated on this day. This day is also known as one among the three and a half auspicious days or Swayam Siddh Muhurata’s during the year Hindu Alamance Vikram Samvat also commenced on this day. Hindu New Year – Samvat 2071 In 2014, the Nav Samvat begins on March 31. Samvat 2071 will start on Monday under the influence of Siddh Yoga and will be known by the name Plavang. The ruler of this samvat is Lord Indra. The King and Minister for this Samvat is Moon. Lord of weather, rain and water resources is Sun. Mercury is the lord of metals and trading, lord of nectar and natural juices is Venus. Lord of fruits and flowers is Saturn. Both Mercury and Mars are financial head and security chief is Saturn. Samvat 2071 and India India’s independence chart has Taurus ascendant and Cancer moon sign. During this year Jupiter will keep on transiting in 12th house from cancer sign leading to political unrest.
