San Juan County Permit Department has withdrawn the Determination of Non-Significance for the 271-foot-long dock proposed by Orca Dreams, LLC. More than a hundred comments including ones from the Friday Harbor University of Washington Friday Harbor Labs were received about the initial DNS. One of the FH UW Labs marine reserves is located next to the pocket beach where the dock was to be located. According to the legal notice: Once a new location is selected, a new environmental checklist will be required followed by a new threshold determination and comment period. NOTICE: Withdrawing Determination of Nonsignificance San Juan County Community Development and Planning Department is withdrawing a Determination of Nonsignificance that was issued on May 21, 2014. The DNS was issued for file number PSJ000-14-0008 for construction of a residential dock serving six users on San Juan Island. This decision is made per WAC 197-11-340(3)(a)(i) because substantial changes have to be made to the proposal to move the dock to a different location. Once a new location is selected, a new environmental checklist will be required followed by a new threshold determination and comment period.
