Sanaa, January 07 (QNA) - Dozens of people were killed or injured in a blast outside a police college in the Yemeni capital Sanaa early Wednesday, security sources said. Ambulances were transporting casualties away from the scene of the blast, which appeared to target a group of students outside the college, some of whose bodies were later seen lying in the street. The explosion was heard across the city and a large plume of smoke was visible in the area of the college. Security in Yemen has diminished since a 2011 popular uprising that led to a change of government and splits in the army. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), one of the movements most active wings, has staged a growing number of bombings and shootings across the country. On Tuesday Unidentified assailants killed a Yemeni tribal chief and at least four other people in an ambush. Security sources said the ambush targeted Sheikh Mohammed Abdel-Qader in al-Bayda province some 270 km (170 miles) southeast of the capital Sanaa.
