Sandyford Road 1855. Sandyford Road formally was Sandyford-Stone Lane ran east from Barras Bridge to the present junction with Portland Road and Portland Terrace. On September 20th 1759, Mr.Cuthbert Lambert was riding along Sandyford-Stone Lane, his mare took fright and running to the bridge (that once stood on the site) made a spring over the battlement which was over 3 feet high to the opposite of the burn below, he escaped with his life by catching hold of a branch from a tree, but his poor horse died, and ever since then that part of Sandyford Road is known as Lamberts Leap.
