Sangguniang Kabataan needs overhauling. Kabataan Barangay is the predecessor of Sangguniang Kabataan. The predecessor Kabataan Barangay was a tool during the Marcos Dictatorship and it was used to divide the youth. The youth then was an active opposition against the Marcos Dictatorship; in order to divide the youth, Marcos formed Kabataang Barangay and used it to perpetuate themselves in power. The present Sangguniang Kabataan does not promote grass root volunteerism; it promotes patronage politics at a young age. The present Sangguniang Kabataan is the training ground for neo-feudalism--where the children of the Mayor; Vice-Mayor; Councilor; Governor; Vice-Governor will use the Sangguniang Kabataan as training ground not for service but for patronage politics. The present politicians uses this to ensure his power base--because this is where exchange of money flows so that vote buying during election can take place. Since the organizational structure and financial framework is already there; the would be presidential candidate or any kind of politician can buy the necessary votes at the Barangay Level using the Sangguniang Kabataan. In gist, the system is a cradle where they teach patronage politics instead volunteerism; they teach the youth that money can be used to ensure yourself in power--thus the present Sangguniang Kabataan are receiving funds from Congress; who submits soft pet projects that will be funded by Congress. Essentially, the ghost projects are there in the form funds for night parties; basketball tournaments and yet the long term effects of the programs for National Youth Development are not attained. Instead of teaching our youth right manners and proper conduct; we teach them to use money as measurement of leadership success. The present system is the foundation for feudalism and promotes--- POLITICAL DYNASTY. Thus, si Daddy or Mommy Congressman; si Ate or Kuya Governor; si Kuya or Ate Senator; si Pinsan Mayor; Si 2nd Counsin Vice-Mayor and so forth.
