Santa Fe Depot Parking Lot to be Closed Tuesday, Aug. 27 Visitors to the Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce, the Visitors Center, Atchison County Historical Society Museum and Atchison Rail Museum will have to find a new place to park Tuesday, Aug. 27 while the parking lot is remarked. The Chamber, Museum and Visitor Center will all be open regular hours Tuesday but the parking lot will be off limits for at least most of the day. The new markings will make it clearer to visitors where the parking spaces are and where the areas that are not for parking to allow the trolley adequate space to operate. The project is just in time to help get ready for the always busy Haunted Season in Atchison. The area along the front of the Depot will be marked yellow as a designate no parking zone and trolley pickup zone and the lot will be marked to run one way entering -bearing to the right and driving counter clockwise through the lot. This was done to keep traffic problems down during busy times and to avoid future near misses between vehicles and pedestrians. The remarking will also add an additional handicap parking space on the side next to the Atchison Rail Museum. For those doing business or visiting the Depot on Aug. 27th - parking will be available in the lot along US 59 just across the pedestrian bridge from the Depot (to the south) and across S. 10th Street for short term parking and deliveries (to the west).
