Santa Run This past weekend showcased Reading’s first Santa run, of which all proceeds go to the Duchess of Kent House hospice and the Alexander Devine Childrens Hospice (1). The 5k run organised by the Rotary Club of Reading set off from Forbury Gardens at 9am Sunday 14th December. Mayor of Reading Councillor Tony Jones counted down to start the runners. He said: I hope that this will become an annual event. A sea of red jolly men, and women, were under starters orders at Forbury Gardens and took the route through Broad Street, the Oracle and along the banks of the Kennet (2). First over the finish line was 22-year-old Nick Buckle from Twyford, followed by Thomas Chennell and Kieran Tatum. The fastest women through the course were Amber Gascoigne, Andrea Greenfield and Tamsin Woodcock. Organisers, delighted at the success of the event, are hoping to raise £15,000 when all sponsorship is collected. Santa run’s are prominent throughout the UK this Christmas, for more information on why Santa runs are set up: santadash.co.uk/ 2:readingchronicle.co.uk/news/reading/articles/2014/12/14/106100-readings-first-santa-run-hits-the-streets/ 3:getreading.co.uk/whats-on/family-kids-news/first-reading-santa-run---8285655
