Santa to playdates….. We have had one heck of a year! We are in a very different place than we were this time last year. Overall, Cooper has tolerated his chemo protocol like a champ! We count our blessings daily, as we know how fortunate we are for this. Over the past year we’ve only had a few unexpected ER visits and a few cycle setbacks for low counts. For such a long protocol, he has been able to stay right on track for the most part. We are happy to share that he is scheduled to complete his chemo treatments in mid-March!! His latest MRI was again slightly improved overall, and with “decreased enhancement within the left optic tract”. We couldn’t be more thrilled and grateful! With each MRI there is relived anxiety and fear, but there is also renewed hope and healing. All being evidence of God’s amazing work. At 3 ½, and on the brink of completion, we are beginning to shift our focus more aggressively towards vision therapy. He has done very well in working with his speech therapist and in these last few months we are able to gain better insight into his vision. It’s hard to know the fullest extent of his abilities until he’s been able to express it better. He’s come a long way in this regard. We’ve just met with his newest team member; his vision teacher. He’s being enrolled in the Blind Babies program with Lighthouse and the Division of Blind Services. He’s not blind by any means, but he is clearly visually impaired. He has good vision days, and bad vision days, but he is still quite capable. We have some homework to start working on and we are eager to get started. Our hope is to start him in preschool in April and continue through the summer, all with the help of his vision teacher. Then in August he will be able to integrate into VPK with his new navigational and alternative skills. We’re excited to all learn with him. He is very excited to start school with even more new “friends”. Today he had his first playdate. A more excited kid you have never seen. He’s coming into his own he is. We’re looking forward to many more to come! xxo
