Santokie hoping for better luck in 2014 IPL auction Jamaican left-arm seamer Krishmar Santokie is hoping for better fortunes in the 2014 Indian Premier League (IPL) player auction. Santokie, voted the Caribbean Premier Leagues (CPL) most valuable player last season, is one of several West Indians who will be part of the auction which will be held on February 12, and 13, if necessary. Others include fellow Jamaicans batsman Marlon Samuels, Andre Russell and Sheldon Cotterrell, Dwayne Smith, Darren Sammy, Fidel Edwards, Ravi Rampaul, Jason Holder, Chris Barnwell, Kieron Powell, and Lendl Simmons. Overlooked It feels good be a part the IPL again, said Santokie, who was a part of the preseason auction last season, but was overlooked by the various franchise teams. I believe I have a better chance of gaining selection this season, having done well in the CPL last season, and I am looking forward to the day of the auction, he said. Santokie, who has represented the West Indies in two Twenty20 Internationals, starred in the CPL last summer after taking 16 wickets in nine games for beaten finalist Guyana Amazon Warriors. Prior to that, the 29-year-old represented Kulna in the inaugural Bangladesh Premier League, which was held in February last year. The CPL was a good experience for me and I thought I showed the world what I could do, said Santokie. It was also a continuation of my performances in the format as, in the WICB Caribbean Twenty20 tournaments, if I did not finish with most wickets, I would tend to finish in top three bowlers. A total of 29 West Indian players will enter the auction, with a base price ranging from US$320,000 to US$80,000. The number of West Indians is the fourth highest for any country, with India and Australia having the most at 46 and Sri Lanka 39. Santokie and company are seeking to join Royal Challengers Bangalores Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo of the Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders Sunil Narine, and Kieron Pollard of the Mumbai Indians, in the worlds most lucrative league. The quartet have all been retained by their respective franchise teams and as such are not required to participate in the auction.
