Sanvee Eyes Montserrado County Senatorial Bid, Possible Showdown With Weah Benjamin Sanvee, a youth activist and leader has launched a Senate Exploratory Committee to assess his viability for contesting the 2014 mid-term senatorial elections for Montserrado. County, a seat also believed will likely be contested by football legend George Weah. “Our country is at a major crossroads – a defining moment in our history when we need to focus how to uplift the people especially the youth and women more than ever… .the need to focus on implementing policies that will build the technical capacity of the youth, the need to build a life skills center to teach young people how to transition from university to career life, the need to elevate market women from selling in Duala to owning a store in Sinkor or even shopping center. My goal is to represent the people of Montserrado County in the Liberian Senate to focus on these needs and bringing them to reality,” said Sanvee. Sanvee has been a fighter for youth causes since he was 16. He gained national prominence when he delivered what was described as one of the most inspirational speeches at the National Conference on the Future of Liberia in 1998. At the conclusion of the conference, Ben was appointed as the advisor on youth affairs to the government at the age of 17, becoming the youngest member of a Presidential Cabinet in the history of Liberia. He continues to fight today on issues critical to the people of Liberia. He has worked with youth organizations nationally and coordinated with the appropriate agencies of the government to implement programs from scholarships, HIV/AIDS awareness and job creation strategies. He has proudly represented Liberia at numerous conferences where he sought to bring the world’s attention to the plights of Liberians For the next five months, the exploratory committee will be working with Sanvee closely, speaking with people in all the 17 electoral districts of Montserrado County, listening and learning more about the challenges and the opportunities. And in December, at the end of the process he will make a decision and share his plans with the residents of Montserrado and the people of Liberia. Sanvee stated that “this is not about a political party; it’s about taking responsibility and ownership while rallying a generation of solution bearers to confront our challenges.” Born in Monrovia, Liberia on August 18, 1981, Sanvee from the tender age of 16, have always been involved with youth activism in his native Liberia. He served in this capacity for one year prior to his departure to the United States to pursue his academic studies. With this portfolio came its challenges and triumphs. Being the lonely voice in the midst of a bureaucratic system long design to pursue dominance, Benjamin had his eyes set on the youth agenda that will help truly transform youth life and provide the voice they needed.
