Sapsucker Woods in Ithaca New York is a must see destination if youre cruising around the southern tier looking for fall foliage during October. Just one of the many reasons we love the Ithaca area. We spent this past weekend in Ithaca and stopped there to enjoy its splendor. But what is really cool is that its like a living laboratory for Cornell Universitys School of Ornithology (a branch of zoology that concerns the study of birds). The 230-acre sanctuary encompasses forests, ponds, ferny swamps, and abundant wildlife. More than four miles of trails and boardwalks are waiting for you to explore. They have a visitor center where you can borrow a pair of binoculars, download a map or take a guided tour. According to their website: The Cornell Lab of Ornithology is a world leader in the study, appreciation, and conservation of birds. Our hallmarks are scientific excellence and technological innovation to advance the understanding of nature and to engage people of all ages in learning about birds and protecting the planet. Founded in 1915, the Cornell Lab is a nonprofit organization supported by 78,000 friends and members. Our vibrant community includes 200,000 citizen-science participants from all walks of life and 12 million bird enthusiasts of all ages who connect with us online at All About Birds. More than 200 bird species have been recorded in Sapsucker Woods. When you visit, you can check the latest reports on the eBird Trail Tracker kiosk in the Visitor Center. Or you can download the Google gadget and read the latest sightings on your iGoogle home page. #Roc #SapsuckerWoods #IthacaNY #Cornell #MontanusPhotography #Nikon #HDR
