Sara Myers: Weve not received an apology for what happened. We have not received holistic reparation, which isnt about money... They did it. [Who did it?] White people are responsible for the enslavement and colonialism. So, who is we and who is they? We seems to be all black people, and they seems to be all white people. Is this not over-identification with pigmentation, which is really the foundation of racism? Sure, European conquistadors and colonialists perpetrated horrible atrocities. Do all people of challenged pigmentation need to take responsibility for this? For how long? Are all people of more substantial pigmentation automatically victims? For how long? How do we define black and white in a substantially more integrated and mobile modern world? Sara Myers seems like a really nice, well-intentioned person, but also a privileged middle-class European. I totally understand identification with culture, and even race - our minds like to work that way, and it takes quite some effort to cut through our visceral instinct to prejudge.
