Sarah, our 17 year old dog died last week. She developed - TopicsExpress

Sarah, our 17 year old dog died last week. She developed peritonitis a day after surgery. Michael rushed her to the Ark vet clinic, but the decision was made not to wake her after surgery when tumours were discovered on her kidneys and liver. Michael was so distraught the vet staff were worried about him getting home safely. This happened just a few days after the sudden death of my nephew so it wasnt a good week. Then today two of the Arks vet staff, Bindie and Paula turned up, with flowers and the card below. Sarah had most of her tongue removed some months ago, and at the time vets, staff and Michael and I were prepared to put her down if she didnt recover. But she did, and within days vet Vanessa had to ask us to take her home; Sarah had not only recovered, but she showed her boredom by shaking her large cage so hard she moved it across the room. The staff were so fond of Sarah they emailed photos of her to staff who were away. They came in early and stayed late to ensure she got special care. So according to Bindie, Michael wasnt the only one in tears when Sarah died - they all were. And on their day off Bindie and Paula drove sixty kms to our place to give us their heartfelt card and the flowers. They also asked if they could put Sarahs story on the Arks website. Sarah will live on in the experience they gave the vets and staff experience in tackling some very difficult medical situations, but also in all our hearts. As Bindie said even when one is dealing with animals every day, sometimes theres that special one. And that was Sarah. She was not just our friend but our protector. When I witnessed her throw herself upon a pitbull terrier that attacked a child I knew that she would put her life on the line to save her family. So vale Sarah, my loving companion. And thank you vets Marie, Vanessa and Sarah, and all your absolutely wonderful staff, for going so far beyond the call of duty.
