Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Hecegovina, was considered by many people to be the heart of Yugoslavia before the region was split up into seven countries. People from all the nationalities of ex-Yugoslavia would mingle and trade on the historic cobbled street of Bascarsija, where the Beg Mosque stands opposite the Orthodox Church nearby the Catholic Cathedral and the Synagogue. It was home to many renowned musicians, poets, writers, actors and filmmakers such as Emir Kusturica. The heart of the city was music, and the soul of the city was Sevdah. dawn/news/1037121/the-soul-of-sevdah
