Saraki: Kwara Speaker drops security aides Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Razak Atunwa, appears to have carried out his decision to relinquish his security details in protest against the withdrawal of those attached to former governor of the state, Bukola Saraki. The speaker was at the Assembly in Ilorin on Wednesday unescorted by his security aides, who were said to have been returned to the police. Atunwa made the decision last week shortly after the House passed a resolution condemning the withdrawal of Saraki’s security aides. The House explained that Saraki’s security detail was part of his pension entitlement as a former governor, as contained in Section 2 (3) (H) of the Third Schedule of the Kwara State Pension Law 2010. The Speaker said he would be relinquishing his security detail in the next 48 hours if those of Saraki were not restored. “If the Nigeria Police Command does not deem it fit to protect a two-term governor and senator, then it is duplicitous to seek to protect a Speaker of the State Assembly,” Atunwa, who served as a commissioner under Saraki’s administration, argued. Special Assistant on Media to the Speaker, Abdulrahman Sanni, confirmed that his boss had dropped his security aides as well as official cars, saying, “he is now working as an ordinary man”. However, spokesman of the State Police Command, Olufemi Fabode, said he was not yet aware of the development
