Sarcasm may make us laugh, or feel smart, but it typically blesses no one. This is especially true in attempting to communicate biblical, saving and sanctifying truth. We believers should reject and renounce this social / cultural trend that is rife within the church. We should repent! [Note: pay special attention to verse 15]: [13] Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? [14] But even if you should suffer for righteousness sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, [15] but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, [16] having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. [17] For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be Gods will, than for doing evil. (1 Peter 3:13-17 ESV) It is not enough to give the right answers; we must also have the right spirit within us. The power of God is not in our wit. The power is in the blood. The work of plowing will not be accomplish by sharp tongues, but by the hovering, moving, penetrating Spirit of God. Let us not employ cleverly devised methods, but speak the truth in love. Our Father is not looking for our ability to be slick; Hes looking for us to be faithful, truthful, peaceful, loving and willing to be filled as we share the Gospel. Let us speak simply, and trust the Spirit to send out Gods word and yield fruit by His own work. Lord, help me. I am a natural born smart aleck, and a first class man of sarcasm. I plead to You, Father, help me grow.
