Sarita, your comment about the wisdom of Corbett being sound and hard to question is one I agree with very much. And one story I always found very hard to believe was the one about two otters killing a huge python (in Jungle Lore I think). I had never heard anything like that before. So I googled can an otter kill a python. To my great surprise I found this story and even though it involves an alligator, not a python, it shows an otter engaging in predation I had never imagined possible!! Corbett stands vindicated in one of his (to me) most unlikely claims... I honestly trust his bushcraft advice more than that of any other I know of, from Kenneth Anderson to U.S. Army survival manuals; Corbett is the gold standard of outdoors wisdom. Still, permit an incurable skeptics comment here: Today is the birthday of another true master of his field, Albert Einstein. This, probably the greatest physicist of the 20th century, made mistakes in physics. Profound mistakes (in quantum mechanics, not cosmological constant. He may be semi-salvaged yet but thats really a long story :-) ). Allow me to state that we should always read Corbetts advice and hints as those of a profound master of his field (jungle lore, bush-craft and especially the hunting of difficult game). But never as eternal truths that cannot be questioned. Let us verify whenever possible, in the spirit of the scientific method. And treat Corbett as a scientist of practical jungle knowledge but not as a semi-deity. We should never stop to humbly question when things seem not to make sense. This otter story strongly suggests that Corbett will be indeed by vindicated. And I doubt that he would ever want to be treated like semi-deity. Id love to hear your views here!!
