Sarvodaya cited as an example of best practice at Geneva Peace Conference The Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement of Sri Lanka along with University of Peace Costa Rica were cited as examples of best practices at the International Conference entitled Geneva Peace Conference on the theme Mobilizing civil society for building peace upon an invitation by World Journalists and Writers Association held at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva on 24th October 2014 commemorating the 69th anniversary of adopting the United Nations Charter. Over 600 participants representing 50 countries participated. Mrs Ela Gandhi, granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi was one of the keynote speakers. Dr.Charika Marasinghe, Board member of Sarvodaya Legal Services Movement (SLSM) represented Sarvodaya at the conference and spoke at the First Session on the Role of Civil Society in Sustaining Peace which was moderated by Mr Gunnar Johan Stalsett a member of the Nobel Peace Prize Selection Committee. The presentation was well received and the Final Geneva Peace Declaration adopted at the Geneva Peace Conference has cited Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement of Sri Lanka and University of Peace Costa Rica as examples of best practices.
