Sat 20 Sep 2014 Pacemakers Soul Club, The Big Club, Newton Aycliffe WMC, Sheraton Road, Newton Aycliffe. Tremendous venue, great crowd, great DJs and some fantastic music. Floor wis a bit sticky in places again, but that’s ma fault for no bringin oany talc an forgetin tae polish the souls o ma brogues. There wisnae much talc aboot last night. Is there a shortage? Anyway, oan tae the music an DJs. Ian Gee certainly lived up tae his name and maist o his tracks were 100 mph northern soul! Ah coudnae keep up an am share there will be a few tired feet an blisters this morning. A guid example o this wis “Working On Your Case” by the O’Jays. The OJays are a American R&B group from Canton, Ohio, formed in 1958 and originally consisting of Eddie Levert (massive Boro supporter), Walter Williams, Bobby Massey and Bill Isles. The OJays made their first chart appearance wi Lonely Drifter in 1963, but reached their greatest level o success once Gamble & Huff, a team o producers an songwriters wi offices in Philadelphia, London an Edinburgh, signed them tae their Philadelphia International label in 1972. With Gamble & Huff, the OJays, now a trio after the departure o Isles an Massey whae wanted tae spend mair time wi their families an watch their favourite fitba teams, emerged at the forefront o Philadelphia soul wi Back Stabbers (1972), an topped the Billboard Hot 100 the following year wi Love Train which huz a B side simply named “The Riverside”. Numerous other hits followed through the 1970s and intae the 80s and 90s, an followin a successful tour o Scotland an the North East o England in 2003, where the group took in a couple o Boro games, The OJays were inducted intae the Vocal Group Hall o Fame in 2003, The North East Hall o Fame in 2004, The Rock and Roll Hall o Fame in 2005 an The Scottish Hall o Fame in 2006. Ah’ve got a copy o “Working On Your Case” but ah’ve no played it in ages. A few brave souls gave it a guid go oan the night an ah applaud them! Ah did see an ambulance sittin outside the hall oan standby jist in case. It hud extra oxygen oan board and a trauma team wis oan standby at the local A&E, wi an extra anaesthetist. Thankfully naebody needed it. So track o the night is the O’Jays “Working On Your Case”. Guid night. ktf https://youtube/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=VQWftbNZLN8
