Sat. July 27, 2013 THE WONDERS OF HIS KINDNESS Psalms 31:19-21 KEY SCRIPTURE: “Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city” (Psalms 31:21). Closely related to yesterday’s reflection on the wonders of His love is the wonder of His kindness. It is true and genuine love that produces kindness. Kindness is showing compassion, sympathy, benevolence towards another person. God’s kindness is towards those who are helpless, hopeless and the needy including His enemies. He reaches out and have compassion to those who appreciate Him or not. Hence, He is kind to all. “But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil” (Luke 6:35). This is wonderful kindness of God! This character of God makes it easy for Him to forgive our sins and overlook our mistakes many times. “In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer” (Isaiah 54:8). We need to follow the example of our God in forgiving people when they offend us and in showing kindness to them. From the passage, the following factors would hinder a person from experiencing the wonders of God’s kindness: 1) Pride: “Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man” (vs. 20a). The Pharisee in Luke 18:10-14, considered himself better than the publican due to pride, he went home unjustified and without receiving the kindness of God. 2) Filthy and blasphemous tongues. “Thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues” (vs. 20b). Beloved, watch what you say because, “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned” (Matt. 12:37). Read and Meditate: Jonah 4:1-11 Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to watch my utterances and glorify you with my tongue. Intercession: Pray for Guinea Bissau. Christian population: 10.9%. Pray for the peace of God to reign in the land for the gospel to thrive and many be saved.
