Sat down next to an Old lady at Centro Mall today, sparked up a conversation after she noticed my WWII book I was reading, we exchanged comments and I learned that her husband had served in WWII and had past away 10 years ago, she also mentioned she was 93. I inquired about grand kids and her smile faded. She mentioned that she was placed in retirement and thatshe rarley saw her family. I decided to chat her spirits back up and started telling jokes that my dad told (yep older people know these jokes) her smile came back and had a pleasant talk with her till she had to head off. Moral of the story, your elderly are precious, mum and dad, grand dad, grand ma, they hold the key to wisdom and knowledge, they paved way for our generations, they are the seat of faith, they are the foundation of family and ofcourse they are our loved ones. Do not discard them, do not just send em away, but rather keep in touch, Lord knows how long they will be here. As they quote in our Samoan Culture; " The Elderly, your ancestors are the foundation of the family, therefore one must look after their elders for they hold the key to the power of wisdom an knowledge, to cast them aside brings shame and bad luck to the family"
