Satish Kumar, who has been quietly setting the global agenda for change for over 50 years, will be talking at Asthall Manor this weekend. His talk, “A Journey of Joy”, marks the start of a week-long exhibition in the ballroom at Asthall Manor, celebrating the 45-year history of the magazine Resurgence (now Resurgence and Ecologist), which Satish has edited for over 40 years. Satish became a Jain monk at 9 years old, but rejoined the world at 18, in order to campaign for land reform and peace in India. At 26, Satish embarked on an 8,000-mile pilgrimage from from India to America, by way of Moscow, London and Paris, carrying no money & relying on the kindness of strangers, delivering a packet of peace tea to the then leaders of the world’s four nuclear powers at the culmination of his journey. Satish has been living in the UK since 1973, when he began editing Resurgence.
