Saturday, 06 December 2014 08:59 Directorate of Infrastructure Finishes Building a School in Rural Idlib Directorate of Infrastructure Finishes Building a School in Rural Idlib The Directorate of Infrastructure in the Interim government finished building a school in the town of Al Tamana’a in southern rural Idlib. The Director of Infrastructure said that “despite the great difficulties we faced during the construction of the school, most notably the shortage of building materials, we managed to finish the construction of the school and already put it to use. He also said that the Interim government funded the project, which cost $4,000 USD. The school accommodates 130 students at the primary level. It is worth noting that many students in the opposition-held areas are no longer attending schools due to the regime forces’ daily bombing which forced many civilians out of their homes and also due to the destruction or severe damage sustained by the education facilities. The Syrian Network for Human Rights said in a report that regime forces indiscriminate shelling on Syrian cities and towns has left at least 3,994 schools either completely destroyed or damaged. The report lists 450 schools that were completely destroyed and need to re-built, mostly in Homs, Damascus and Aleppo. Also, 3,423 schools have suffered medium or low damage and can be restored. Of these 1,500 schools have been turned into shelters for the internally displaced people, while 150 schools have been turned into field hospitals in the opposition-held areas. Furthermore, regime forces have turned nearly 1200 schools to detention centers and headquarters for security forces. (Source: Syrian Coalition + Syrian Interim Government)
