Saturday 10:40 am Update: Two juvenile males, Joshua Crouse and Randall Gary, are still at large but additional information has been provided as to the escape from the Kenai Peninsula Youth Facility. On the evening of Friday, November 7, around 8:30 pm Kenai Police responded to the juvenile detention center on Marathon road to the report of a riot. KPD officers found facility guards had been assaulted by multiple teenage detainees and subsequently five teenage males had escaped. At 9:21 pm an officer saw three of the escapees walking eastbound on Lawton Drive between Kenai Central High School and Rogers Road. When spotted the three teenager ran into the woods and multiple Kenai Police as well as Alaska State Trooper units surrounded the area. The three juvenile escapees were found hiding in a dumpster at the south end of the ice rink parking lot, apprehended and returned to the Kenai Peninsula Youth Facility. Through the investigation of the three escapees, 18 year-old Cody Rosenthal was transported to Wildwood Pretrial Facility and booked for Riot, Escape 2nd Degree and Theft 2nd Degree. Though law enforcement continued to search through the night, Crouse and Gary have not been located. Based on the assault on guards and in the interest of public safety, the Kenai Police Department was granted authorization to release names, details, and photographs of the two. Crouse has ties to Nikiski and Gary has ties to Homer. KPD is still working to locate the individuals and requests that anyone with information contact them at 283-7879, call 911, or contact law enforcement in your area. Residents should not try to apprehend or call out to them as they could be dangerous.
