Saturday, 14 June 2014, is Flag Day. Unfortunately, more and more so-called patriots choose to ignore the U.S. Flag Code and disrespect our nations symbol by using it for commercial/politically partisan purposes, as clothing/part of a costume, etc. When I was in grade school, we were required to learn and practice proper flag etiquette as part of our education in civics (i.e., good citizenship). I understand and respect those who object to any display of nationalism, but not those who disrespect the flag out of ignorance/apathy/hypocrisy. (Disrespect for the flag is officially defined in Section 8 of the U. S. Flag Code.)
