Saturday, 20 July 2013 17:49 Proud Day For Jon Written by Robert Boyle Proud Day For Jon JON DALY was thrilled to net his first goal for Rangers against FC Emmen today and admits that pulling on the captain’s armband late on was the icing on the cake. The big striker hit a fine goal in the 49th minute, controlling Andy Little’s cross brilliantly before firing an accurate left foot shot, and it gave the Light Blues another deserved 1-0 victory. It certainly turned out to be a day to remember for Daly who was also handed the captain’s armband from Lee Wallace when the vice skipper was replaced by Steven Smith in the second half. He said: “Obviously I am delighted to get my goal. It was a nice little finish after great work from Andy Little. “He’s worked ever so hard to get down the side of them and he’s put a great ball into the box. “I’ve just managed to take a touch across my marker and hit it first time, thankfully it has gone in. “It was a great feeling and hopefully it can be the first of many. “I think the first half was tough as they kept the ball really well and the conditions were hot so it was hard to press them. “Second half I thought we played better and figured them out a bit. “To now have five clean sheets is a great achievement for the boys at the back and in midfield and hopefully we can build on that. “If we keep doing that and take our chances at the other end we will win more games than we lose. “To be given the captain’s armband today was definitely nice as well, to be honest it was probably because I was the oldest player left on the pitch! “But I am obviously delighted just to be playing for the club and to wear the captain’s armband was a great honour, it is something I will cherish.” watp....shiz
