Saturday 25 January PRAYER IN THE SPIRIT; PRAYING IN TONGUES Meditate: “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding”. (1 Corinthians 14:14-15 NKJV) Text: Romans 8:26, 27 When Jesus Christ was crucified and rose on the third day, He promised to send the comforter to be with us always. He urged the disciples to remain until they receive the Holy Spirit. They were in one accord when the Holy Spirit came upon them and they all started speaking in tongues. Tongues are an evidence of being baptized with the Holy Spirit. The scripture made us understand that God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must do so in spirit and truth (Jn. 4:24). The Spirit helps us to pray in ways we cannot ordinarily. Why? Because, the Spirit is from God, He knows the desires and expectation of God at every moment. So when you pray in tongues you are praying God’s will. “But you, beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit” (Jude 1:20). When we pray in the spirit we are edified and our spirit man is built up to receive from God. During such prayers our understanding of what we are saying may be shallow, but we are communing with God in the Spirit. It’s a heartfelt dialogue that touches the heart of God. It’s a Spirit to spirit conversation (1Cor. 14:2). We pray His will when we pray in Tongues because the Holy Spirit helps our weaknesses. Prayer Requests: 1. Fill me with your Spirit, O Lord 2. Father, help me to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. 3. Exercise your faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Daily Bible Reading: (Ex. 11-13)
