Saturday, 7/19/2014 (Weekend) - Four Presents You Can Give: Scripture-Based Encouragement Todays Devotion: July 19 & 20 Four Presents You Can Give: Scripture-Based Encouragement Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Recommended Reading 1 Thessalonians 5 Paul wanted the Thessalonians to give one another the gift of encouragement. He encouraged them in 1 Thessalonians 5 to remember the suddenness of our Lords return. Since Jesus will come like a thief in the night (verse 2), were to be prepared, putting on the breastplate of faith and love and the hope of salvation (verse 8). And since God has a great future for us, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him (verse 10). We should therefore encourage each other to look up with hopefulness (verse 11). We should honor those who labor among us, living with peace and patience toward all (verses 12-14). What a great chapter Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians! When were conscious of the imminent return of Christ, were filled with hope and that helps us offer Scripture-based encouragement to others. When we encourage someone else with such scriptural truth, they will in turn encourage others. Our attitudes are passed on down the line. Jesus is coming soon! Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing. Be encouraged to be an encourager. Its a spiritual art that everyone can learn. And mostly you learn by practicing it.
