Saturday 9th Nov. Piha Today I pressed on with illustrations. It’s slow work, and there are quite a lot to do. The photo is of my desk as I work on the drawing that will show two assembled hulls ready for the deck, hut and rigging to be added. The only other news I have today is that I finally have the letter letting me know the date of my NZ Citizenship ceremony… 29th Nov. So that lets me organise my timetable for the next few months; I’ll leave here in few days, heading first to Hamilton. There, for those that have been paying attention, is a special shop I’ve needed to visit for a while… the ‘campervan levelling blocks’ shop. I need these if I’m going to the more ‘off road’ campsites, even more so as they get busy (flat spots get taken first). From there I’ll head to Raglan and Kawhia. After Tasman runs out to sea escaping Cook Strait, the next land he sees is Mount Karioi, near Raglan. Kawhia Harbour, just South of there is where the ‘Tainui’ canoe landed. The occupants of that canoe settled there and spread North and South along the coast. After the Kurahaupo people these are the next Maori to see Tasman. After I’ve seen and done what I need to do there I’m going to head back to the Coromandel for a while… it’s a really good place to work undisturbed (and have a camp fire) before heading back to Henderson for the 29th. After the Citizenship thing I’ll head South. I have to catch up with some people in Wellington on the way down, and there is a Museum and a Library I have to visit… then across to the South Island. I’ve a whole heap of things to try and get done around there, which is going to be a bit tricky at the height of the holiday season, but it’s the only time I can go. I hope I can get around everything in the 6 weeks I have there, which has to include a lot of research, writing and filming. Then… back to Auckland to pick up Elizabeth for a few days before we fly to the UK. So that’s me all sorted for the next few months. I feel tired just writing it down. Time for bed (with the Bond Movie... The Living Daylights). More tomorrow. Goodnight all.
