Saturday, August 24, 2013 Fearful Faith Scripture - It’s far better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust any human. (Psalms 118:8 CEB) I had been ashamed to ask the king for a group of soldiers and cavalry to help us in facing enemies on the way, because we had told the king, "The power of God favors all who seek him, but his fierce wrath is against all who abandon him." (Ezra 8:22 CEB) Observation - There is always a tension between our confession and our comfort, between our rhetoric and the perceived reality. Ezra, in a moment of honest confession, acknowledges the fear that betrays his faith. But faith is not the absence of anxiety; it is trusting God and moving forward in spite of anxiety! Then we left the Ahava River on the twelfth day of the first month to go to Jerusalem. The power of our God was with us; he saved us from the power of the enemy and ambushes along the way. (Ezra 8:31 CEB) Application - Am I dealing with my fears honestly before God? Am I advancing when God directs or only when it feels safe? Prayer - O mighty God, You are my strength and shield, the One who has delivered and saved me, and continues to do the same today. I lay all my fears at Your Feet and ask that You might give feet to my faith - causing me to walk Your way, even when I am afraid. Amen. Did these words impact you today? If so, please share them with someone else who might benefit from reading them.
