Saturday, Feb. 1 heralds the return of Beth McKee and Her Roots Stompin Band. Beth and her band have impressed the BBC music aficionados at her earlier shows with her unique style of music and stage show. Beth is a multi-talented singer and songwriter who plays mighty fine piano and accordion with a captivating stage presence. Her roots spread from Nashville, Jackson, Mississippi, Austin and New Orleans where she was a founding member of the all-female Cajun, country band Evangeline. Beths band plays a swampy mix of Americana, blues, Zydeco, roots & roll, gospel and soul. Beths CDs, Im That Way, and Next To Nowhere received critical acclaim from coast to coast.with lean and mean Americana, Southern roots, blues and rollicking boogie woogie as youd expect from someone with her musical pedigree. From north to south, east to west, the reviews are sterling: Jackson, Mississippi native McKee is a musical chef of the highest order. Her specialty is a tantalizing gumbo that reflects her deep Southern roots. And shes assembled the finest ingredients or, in this case, musicians to deliver her spicy cuisine to the fullest. - Eric Harabadian Detroit Live Beth plays tasty piano and accordion, which is very fine, but what she does best is sing. She sings in one of those languid to lusty voices that can make or break your heart, with just the right blend of swamp and soul. Theres a musical completeness here thats not easily accomplished by an artist--the vocals, lyrics and arrangements all flow together effortlessly, creating elegant music that speaks with a single voice. - Jim White Pittsburgh Post-Gazette The show is stolen however, by Beth McKee, in a class with a young Bonnie Raitt. - Nashville Scene (live review) Honky Tonk piano worthy of some Jerry Lee Lewis arson. LA Weekly Like Bonnie Raitt with less of the over-polish, Lucinda Williams with her act more together. Maybe Dusty Springfield if she had a weekly honky tonk gig. — Alex V. Cook (New Orleans Offbeat Magazine) McKee and her flexible ensemble expanded the range of expectations in two hour-plus sets that showcased an assortment of new songs and inspired covers. The utterly reliable approach isnt tied to some affected fad or trend, but if you havent seen this band yet, do it. Jim Abbott - Orlando Sentinel Beth is accompanied by an extraordinarily tight knit and exquisitely talented band including husband Juan Perez on drums and percussion, multi-instrumentalist Dan Walters on bass and vocals, and Brian Chodorkoff on guitar.. This is good stuff. Highly recommended. Bring your dancin shoes, too! More information, lots of music and videos at: reverbnation/bethmckee bethmckee/ Show time is 10 pm.
