Saturday, January 24, 2015 As one drives into the town of David in Panama there is a mountain that was formed by a volcano. This mountain has a flat top with a lake on it. During the rainy season there is a beautiful waterfall that can be seen running from the top of this mountain to about a quarter of the way down the side of the mountain. We always thought that was all there was to that waterfall. We have a friend named Cesar who is an avid rock climber in the area and he told us that he was curious about what was at the base of mountain below the waterfall. He and a friend drove to the area and talked with the indigenous people who lived near the road leading to the top of the mountain. They told Cesar that there wasnt a path to that area because the area was infested with snakes. Based on this information, Cesars friend decided not to go with him because he was afraid of the snakes. Cesar put on his snake boots, took a machete and forged a path to the waterfall on his own. He said it took him five hours to reach the base of the waterfall. He showed us amazing photos taken on his cell phone of what he saw when he reached his destination. The waterfall actually runs down the entire mountain, ending in a pool at the base of the mountain. It was a truly magnificent, beautiful sight -- one that has been seen by very few people. In some ways our lives as Christ followers reflect Cesars expedition to the base of the waterfall. Sometimes friends and family wont go with us when we decide to follow Jesus and we have to make the decision to follow Him on our own. Our path can be treacherous and full of troubles, but when we reach our final destination we discover paradise – Heaven. God doesnt guarantee that our life will be easy, in fact he says in this world you will have troubles (John 16:33). He also states in John 14:1-3, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” We know Gods Word is Truth and God keeps all of His promises. Satan would like us to keep our focus on the temporal, worldly things. If we take our eyes off of Jesus its easy to fall into one of Satans lies. One of the biggest lies is that everyone will go to Heaven. Many people believe they are going to Heaven, but the sad truth is that very few will find the way. God loves us so much that He sent His son to die on the cross for us to save us from sin so that we could have eternal life. As Christ followers we have the assurance of no condemnation, no fear of death, and an eternity in Heaven with Jesus! Hallelujah! Read: Colossians 3:1-3; Revelation 21:3-4 (dw)
