Saturday Morning Meanderings: Grabbed some coffee and the paper - TopicsExpress

Saturday Morning Meanderings: Grabbed some coffee and the paper to check statewide high school scores and to see which college football games are on which channels. Central Washington is playing Simon Fraser in Bothells Pop Keeney Stadium. Love that name. Why is it that old-time football coaches have such colorful monikers? The confrontation is dubbed The Battle for the Border. Guess I wont be attending that home game, since the last time I checked, Bothell was not an Ellensburg suburb. The games on KXLE but by the time those golden pear-shaped tones reach Yakima the static more closely resembles a shriveled prune. My Dawgs are on FOX TV today at 1PM--also on AM radio featuring Bob Rondo and his sidekick. Ill hope for the best for my schizophrenic pooches, but things could get nasty for the Huskies in Palo Alto--their 4-0 record notwithstanding. Then I came across the WSU-Utah listing. That game is later this afternoon and being broadcast by the PAC-12 network. Great, I dont have the PAC-12 network. Not to worry, Ill just tune into the game on the radio for brief updates. But wait, the newspaper listing says None under radio coverage. Wow! Not a single station in Yakima is carrying the game? Maybe Mike Leach, in one of his laconic mutterings, has banned radio coverage. During the past nearly four decades, I have learned that if Yakima isnt exactly the heart of Cougar Country, its at least somewhere within the rib cage. I realize the few of you who stumble across this piece and bother to read it are probably saying Who cares! I am fully aware that there are other more pressing matters on this earth, but frankly, I dont feel like addressing them on a football Saturday in late September. And this evening I will faithfully watch the Seattle Mariners as they try to make up for the 19 times theyve been shut out this season, and somehow stumble their way into the playoffs. Actually, it would be a playoff to get into the playoffs, but I wont go into that. So, happy Saturday to you all, regardless of what you might be doing.
