Saturday, Nov 2nd inspired by Anna Simone Moon Broken Yet Healed “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3 (NIV) When I was around four years old I fell out of my bed and got a cut that left a scar next to my right eye. It looked exactly like a scar my beloved aunt had. Somehow it made me more like her, so the pain of the scar seemed worth it. That was not the last scar I would get. Along with more physical scars there were internal scars as well; scars on my heart that developed over the years indicating the pain of losing family and friends and from enduring difficult times. There is one scar on my body that tells the story of the greatest pain and loss I have endured. A mark that my flesh was cut open from my sternum to my pelvic bone as the doctors tried to save my life, but could never save me from the pain of losing my husband in such a tragic and unexpected way. Countless prayers have been heard by God for my physical and emotional healing. I thought that I would know God had healed and restored my physical injuries when the scar miraculously disappeared from my abdomen. Then during Good Friday service last year I realized that my scar did not have to be gone for me to be healed. Jesus still wears the scars and marks of what he endured at the cross for us, representing hope, life and a man who overcame even death! My scars no longer represent the pain of what I have endured. They represent the healing, hope, restoration and redeeming power of my God. The memory of the pain may not be forgotten, but it has all been worth it, somehow making me more like Jesus as He has given me a story of hope to share with others. Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank you for continuing to heal my broken heart and my wounds. Help me not to look at my scars and remember the pain, but to see only Your healing power and life You have given me in place of the brokenness. Amen.
